Brace reimbursement up to 18 years
These days, there is a good chance that your son or daughter will need to undergo orthodontic treatment. In the Netherlands, about 45% of young people get braces. It is therefore advisable to insure your child for this. There are many health insurance policies that cover braces up to the age of 18. Often this is not done from the basic insurance but you have to get additional insurance for this. When taking out supplementary insurance for braces reimbursement, keep the following points in mind:
- The premium
- Maximum reimbursement
- Reimbursement percentage
- What exactly is reimbursed
- Additional conditions (e.g. waiting times)
Note! Sometimes it is stated that the reimbursement applies once only. This means for the entire duration of the insurance. So you will not get the same reimbursement every year.

Brace reimbursement for adults
Braces reimbursement for adults is never covered by basic insurance. However, you can get additional insurance for orthodontics. We recommend that you find out in advance what the costs for your orthodontic treatment will be. On this basis, you can then decide whether it makes sense to insure yourself for a reimbursement for braces. In many cases it is cheaper to pay the costs of the braces yourself.
