The invisible braces, we always have to laugh a little at this term. We prefer to call it transparent or translucent. The invisible braces might be more like something out of the Harry Potter movies… And you would think, invisible braces, how can they affect your teeth? Still, somewhere we understand why this term is used regularly. Let’s talk about it.

Transparent or translucent

We prefer to call the aligners transparent or translucent because we think this better describes the product. We agree that the transparent braces are almost invisible but “invisible braces” is somewhat of an exaggeration. The meaning of invisible is as follows: not detectable by sight. This would mean that you can’t put your invisible braces on the sink because before you know it you won’t find it back.

We make fun of the term a bit but believe us, when you wear the invisible brace, we are sure that many people would not even notice it. Therefore, this is the great advantage of transparent braces. Because aligners are custom-made, they slide tightly over your teeth making them almost invisible. This also makes them super comfortable to wear. So no more irritated cheeks from your steel braces.

So what do we call the invisible braces from now on?

Right, the transparent or translucent braces. So why is it called “Invisalign” you may want to ask now? Okay, now you’ve got us. Maybe that’s where the Dutch term invisible braces comes from. But just for the sake of explanation: Invisalign is a recognized brand that makes aligners, so it is not the name of a product. Not entirely coincidentally, Invisalign is the brand we also work with because of the high quality of the product. They ensure this quality because they are critical of the practices they work with.
