The 'Invisalign disadvantages': We disprove them!

Aligners are still a fairly new and unfamiliar product for many people. And with new products, everyone naturally wants to read reviews. People not only look for the advantages but also, of course, for the Invisalign disadvantages. Understandable! So would we. Being honest and transparent is our priority so why not write a blog about Invisalign disadvantages? At your service!

What Invisalign disadvantages do you come across online?

Because we are so enthusiastic about our product and obviously couldn’t think of any disadvantages, we Googled ‘Invisalign disadvantages’.
We came across the following Invisalign disadvantages:

  1. ‘The costs are usually higher than metal braces’.

This is not always the case. In fact, with us you have fewer check-ups than when you go for a metal brace. Want to know more about Invisalign costs? Read our blog: Invisalign costs: facts and myths.

  1. ‘Not all treatments can be performed with Invisalign’

That’s right. For extreme abnormalities, it is not always possible to improve the teeth with Invisalign braces. However, this is only the case in a small group. So would you like to know if it is possible to straighten your teeth with aligners? Please contact us and make an appointment. Together we will see which treatment suits you best. We will always be honest about this. The health of your teeth comes first.

  1. ‘It takes a lot of discipline to wear the covers 22 hours a day’

The responsibility is indeed yours. But is this an Invisalign disadvantage? We don’t think so. On the contrary, it is very nice that you can take the braces off when you brush your teeth. Even when eating, it is nice that you can take your braces off. In addition, the braces are super comfortable to wear which makes it no problem at all to wear them for longer periods of time. In fact, Invisalign braces are almost always perceived as more comfortable than metal braces. This is because a metal brace can sting the cheeks and lips.

  1. ‘When you have the braces in, you can only drink water’

Not true. You can drink anything when wearing an aligner. We do recommend that you watch out for drinks that contain a lot of dyes. In fact, it is an advantage that you can continue to eat and drink almost anything with aligners. Of course, you do need to take the braces off while eating. With metal braces, you have to be very careful about what you eat. For example, it is best not to eat hard foods and it is not recommended to drink carbonated drinks with lots of sugar.

So all in all, the Invisalign disadvantages are not so bad in our opinion and we would like to list the advantages for you.

Advantages of Invisalign

We’ve gotten past the Invisalign disadvantages. Now we’ll tell you about the advantages of Invisalign. And there are many! Check it out:

  • You can keep eating and drinking everything
  • You hardly see the braces
  • Aligners are comfortable to wear
  • You don’t have to go to the practice for a checkup as often compared to treatment with a metal brace
  • Aligners are also reimbursed by health insurance companies. Read all the ins & outs about this in our blog: ‘Will braces be reimbursed?‘.
  • You can still brush and floss your teeth properly. So an aligner is much more hygienic than a metal brace.
  • Treatment with Invisalign is usually faster than treatment with a metal brace.
